The concert opened with BBC New Generation artist Ruby Hughes in a selection of Strauss songs, and ended with an atmospheric post-concert performance of his stunning Metamorphosen, brought into a more intimate and atmospheric setting as the lights were dimmed. The concert also featured Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 25, with Liverpool born pianist Paul Lewis, followed by Beethoven's epic and much anticipated Eroica Symphony.

The concert was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 with Tom McKinney. If you missed the concert live, the recording is still available to listen to on BBC Radio iplayer.
